Affordable Housing
Affordable housing can be social rented, affordable rented and intermediate housing provided to specified eligible households determined by regards to need, local household income and savings limits.
Social rented housing is owned by local authorities and private registered providers for which guideline rents are determined by the national Rent Standard.
Affordable rent is subject to rent controls that cap the rent at no more than 80% of the local market rent (including service charges where applicable) The House of Commons Briefing Paper 05933 7 May 2015 Affordable Rents (England) outlines the principles behind the concept.
Immediate housing is used to describe homes for sale and rent provided at a cost about social rent but below market levels including shared equity.
