Boundaries and boundary disputes
It is crucial to know the correct boundary of a property as uncertainty over its physical extent may affect many aspects of ownership including physical use, rights to repair, maintenance and access to the land. Resulting disputes about boundaries can lead to costly legal action being taken so it is important to have accurate information.
RICS is an excellent place to start with useful publications and guidance. Also important is the Land Registry which registers land and property ownership in England and Wales and Ordnance Survey which provides accurate and up to date geographic data.
