About Us
Ian Smith is a Chartered Building Surveyor and Certified Historic Building Professional able to provide a wide range of services to commercial and residential clients, educational institutions, local authorities and owners of listed and historic buildings in York and throughout Yorkshire and the North East. We are committed to quality, efficiency and providing a cost-effective service to all our clients.
Accredited in Building Conservation by the RICS, Ian is one of a small number of professionals in Yorkshire recognised as understanding the sensitive and careful approach required to manage and conserve historic assets and acknowledged by national heritage bodies including Historic England, Historic Scotland and CADW as experts in conservation and suitably qualified to be appointed to lead grant-funded work on historic properties.
Over the last three decades, Ian has played a leading role in inspecting, repairing and restoring hundreds of listed or historic buildings. He has been privileged to work on properties including Harewood House, Bishopthorpe Palace, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Bradford’s City Hall and Wool Exchange, Chester Castle, Cusworth Hall Park and Allerton Estate.
In addition to specialist conservation services, we can provide a full range of building surveying services for commercial and residential clients. This includes building surveys, condition surveys, quadrennial inspections, heritage statements and impact assessments, defect diagnosis and planned preventative maintenance inspections. Ian also has vast experience in the design, specification, contract administration and project management of repair, restoration, alteration and refurbishment projects.
